A talk and demonstration by Lea Lyon, children’s book illustrator.
This was the first post on the ECAA’s first website on Sept. 26, 2009. For old time’s sake:
We are delighted to welcome Lea Lyon as our guest artist for the October 12 meeting. Lea is an award-winning children’s book illustrator, painting teacher and portrait artist who has turned a childhood love of painting people, especially children, into a new career. Now she not only paints for fun, but also teaches art and illustrates children’s books.
The presentation will focus on how she gets the emotion into her paintings and how a little can show a lot in watercolor. She will paint a quick study to show us what she means.
Lea is currently teaching watercolor painting at the Albany Community Center. Check out her website at http://www.lealyon.com/.
Lea is an active member of The SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators) and coordinates events for Bay Area illustrators. Her paintings are on permanent display at the Sonoma County Family Court building and, potentially, at the White House……(she’ll tell us about this.)
The meeting will take place in the Garden Room of the El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane.
