April 1 (Tuesday) – Vineyard on Church Ln. Turn west from San Pablo Ave onto Church Ln Go into gates for St Joseph Cemetery and go to top of the hill by the mausoleum.
April 3 (Thursday) – Tilden Park.
Last year at this time, we went to this site just as the trees were in bloom at the Brazil Building. Enter Tilden from the intersection of Spruce/Grizzly Peak Blvd onto Wildcat Canyon Rd. Follow this to the the point that Shasta Rd enters Tilden. The Brazil Bldg is on your left, parking lot entrance is just beyond the junction. Views include the hills and Tilden Botanical Garden just beyond. You can also enter Tilden by the Shasta Rd entrance from Grizzly Peak Blvd.
April 10 (Thursday) – View from the El Cerrito Hillside
Carol Sutton suggests a location she found with Eastbay Landscape Painters group: Take Moeser Lane uphill past the Swim Center. Left on Shevlin Drive. Stay on Shevlin Dr. until it becomes King Drive and King Ct. Park on King Ct., a dead end street. There is a trailhead at the end of the street. Follow the trail to the right through the trees to the first of many clear areas with panoramic views of the Bay. From Arlington Blvd. you can also go on Moeser downhill and turn right onto King Drive and to King Ct. The trail is at the end of King Ct. Parking is limited and we will park along King. There is also a very short walk to a really incredible view of the “flatlands” below. Because the area below was once a quarry there is no sloping hillside from this vantage point!
April 17 (Thursday) – Meeker Slough, Marina Bay, Richmond
From Berkeley drive northwest toward the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge on I-580 West. Take S 23rd St/Marina Bay pkwy exit and turn left at the top of the ramp. Go over the freeway (west) onto Marina Bay Parkway. Continue on Marina Bay Pkwy past one signal, past the train tracks, past another signal for about 1 mile. Turn left on Bayside Dr and park at the dead end circle. You can walk from the parking area about a block and out to the public shore and turn right. We often paint near the bridge.
April 24 (Thursday) – Berkeley Victorians / Andree Julian’s Garden
The 2100 block of Ward St. in Berkeley, between Fulton & Shattuck, has a number of interesting large (corner of Ward & Fulton) and small Victorians including #2156 Ward. You can sit in the shade on the south side of Ward and paint sunlit houses across the street. This is the area behind UC Storage building & Kirala restaurant on the east side of Shattuck. It is 4 blocks north of Ashby where Adeline & Shattuck come together. From MLK way in Berkeley, I would take Dwight Way east to Fulton and turn south.
We are 3 blocks from Andree Julian’s house at 2119 Parker Street.
We are invited to paint Andree & Dan’s lovely garden. The rhododendrons should be blooming and there is also a pond (with reflection), waterfall and koi fish. Parker Street is located 2 blocks south of Dwight Way and the house is the second house on your left above Shattuck Ave.
