2014 September Plein Air – Meet at the site at 11 am.
There is a site every Thursday, starting at 11am. Also 2 Monday sessions Sept 22 & 29 510-914-8226
Sept 4th CREST AVE, Pt Richmond. (East Richmond Ave, then south on Washington Ave to top of the hill.) Site requested by Joanna Shafer – From El Cerrito, take Cutting Blvd or 580 from Berkeley to downtown Point Richmond. (turn right to avoid going thru tunnel) and if you are now on E Richmond Avenue, follow it. Turn south (left) at the first street that looks like it will go a distance (Washington Ave.). When you reach the crest of the hill you are at Crest Avenue. Turn left and drive to the end of the road. Google maps would be a big help.
Sept 11th– KING CT OVERLOOK, El Cerrito. Helen Burke requested this site. – Take Moeser Lane uphill past the Swim Center. Left on Shevlin Drive. Stay on Shevlin Dr. until it becomes King Drive and King Ct. Park on King Ct., a dead end street. There is a trailhead at the end of the street. Follow the trail to the right through the trees to the first of many clear areas with panoramic views of the Bay. From Arlington Blvd. you can also go on Moeser downhill and turn right onto King Drive and to King Ct. The trail is at the end of King Ct. Parking is limited and we will park along King. There is a very short walk to a really incredible view of the “flatlands” below. Because the area below was once a quarry there is no sloping hillside from this vantage point!
5pm TAKE DOWN CITY HALL EXHIBIT Thanks again to Marie Cotter for all of her work on this exhibit. Please come to EC City Hall at 5pm and help undo the show.
Sept 18th – HISTORIC HOUSE at 1715 Elm St, El Cerrito (between Potrero & Hill) Jack Anderson, the consummate arbitrator of good composition, thought the abandoned Rodini House worth a painting! Maybe you will also! According to Dave Weinstein from El Cerrito Historical Society, this is the oldest house in El Cerrito, built in about 1905. – The location is between Potrero and Hill Streets.
Sept 22nd – TILDEN PARK CAROUSEL: The Merry-go-Round is open for riders only 4 days a week starting in September. We have permission to paint on Mondays while the staff is doing maintenance. The Carousel will stay still for us to paint! – The Carousel (Merry-Go-Round) is on Central Park Drive, north of Lake Anza. Enter Tilden from the intersection of Spruce/Grizzly Peak Blvd onto Canon Drive and stay right to Central Park Dr. Follow signs to the Merry-Go-Round.
Sept 25th – MEEKER SLOUGH (580 to Bayview exit then 51st to Regatta to Marina Bay Parkway to Bayside) , Marina Bay, Richmond – From Berkeley drive northwest toward the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge on I-580 West. Take S 23rd St/Marina Bay pkwy exit and turn left at the top of the ramp. Go over the freeway (west) onto Marina Bay Parkway. Continue on Marina Bay Pkwy past one signal, past the train tracks, past another signal for about 1 mile. Turn left on Bayside Dr and park at the dead end circle. You can walk from the parking area about a block and out to the public shore and turn right. We often paint near the bridge.
Sept 29th – TILDEN PARK CAROUSEL – Another Monday session when the merry-go-round is standing still for us!
