Dug Waggoner Demonstrates Using Photo Reference to Create Soft Pastel Paintings at the El Cerrito Art Association October Meeting
Dug Waggoner will demonstrate using his own photo reference to create soft pastel paintings at the monthly El Cerrito Art Association meeting at 7:00 pm on October 13 at the El Cerrito Community Center.
Dug says that using his own photo reference entices him to observe, record, edit, and design a vision and bring it to life as a finished fine art painting.
A California native, Dug Waggoner knew from an early age that he was quick to draw from his natural gifts to capture an inspiration. His talents were guided even further by acquiring a BFA degree from CCA before launching a forty-year career as a freelance graphic designer, illustrator, and art director in the San Francisco Bay Area. He finally turned over his advertising side to creating fine art paintings in watercolor and pastel. He is a signature member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast (PSWC). Within the past few years he has been accepted into the internationally recognized showcase for pastels in PSWC’s “Pastels USA,” accepted into Pastel Journal’s “Pastel 100” for the past two years, accepted in 2013 and 2014 by the Pastel Society of America (PSA) for their annual “Enduring Brilliance” Show at the National Arts Club in NYC, awarded this year’s “Best of Show” in PSWC’s Membership Show, and his painting “55th @ Broadway” was accepted into the International Association of Pastel Societies (IAPS) 2014 Show at the Vose Gallery in Boston.
The October 13 meeting will be held in the Garden Room of the El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane, El Cerrito. The evening begins at 7:00 pm with social time and a “mini art show” of members’ work. A brief business meeting is held at 7:30, followed by the speaker.
El Cerrito Art Association meetings are open to the public, and visitors and new members are always welcome.
