March 13, 2017 – Pablo Villicana-Lara – Watercolor

Our March 13 meeting will feature a painting demonstration by Pablo Villicaña-Lara, local award-winning watercolor artist and jurist.  His discovery, 20 years ago, of the tangible quality of light and clarity of color possible with watercolor compelled him to abandon all other media (oil, ceramics, pastel and textiles) to work exclusively in watercolor.

The heart of his image making has always been his love for his culture, color and spirituality. He says, “I was raised in both Mexican and American cultures; most of my paintings reflect my deep respect and connection to my Mexican Native heritage…and sometimes my quirky sense of humor.”

Bachelors of Fine Arts St. Mary’s College in Moraga, California

Masters of Fine Arts, drawing with distinction, California College of the Arts, Oakland, California

He is an art instructor as well as guest demonstrator for various art societies and conducts his own watercolor workshops.
