August 14, 2017 – Joan Hoffmann – The Art of Landscape

Our August 14th program features Joan Hoffmann’s presentation “The Art of Landscape”, with a brief overview of its historical and contemporary significance, and why landscape painting still both popular and fascinating. Join us for a lively discussion of concepts such as linear and spacial art in landscapes, and “Why is negative space still called “negative?”

Joan celebrates forty years+ as a professional artist with her impressionistic plein air paintings, primarily landscapes of the American West.  She hosts painting retreats in various locations and has just been invited to offer classes in Sweden. She continues her years of teaching through Point Reyes Field Institute in California, and lectures independently on The History of American Landscape Painting, National Parks, and Public Lands.

Exhibitions:  White Hart Gallery, Steamboat Springs, CO; Cow Canyon Trading Post, Bluff, Utah.
