October 8- Pastel Demonstration by Bill Cone

Our program for October 8th features a demonstration in soft pastels by California artist Bill Cone. As a set and production designer at Pixar Animation Studios, he discovered the way pastels showed the effect of light on scenery. He’ll share his stories and style as he creates one of his dynamic images from his experiences in nature.

A founding member of The Granite Group, he and a group of artist friends pack into the Sierra Nevada each summer for a week of painting, especially inspired by the effect of light on water and rocks at high altitudes.

His pastel work for Pixar was included in the ‘Art of Pixar‘ show at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC, and other worldwide venues. Plein Air magazine has covered several of these trips and the Pastel Journal featured his work in its August 2013 issue, also as the cover artist.

A member of the California Art Club, Bill’s landscapes have been exhibited in its Gold Medal show and various venues in California. His work can be seen at many Bay Area Galleries and viewed on Pinterest.com.

Bill also teaches workshops throughout the year in the Sierra Nevada and Pt. Reyes National Seashore. http://billcone.blogspot.com

Our November 12th meeting is our end-of-year potluck, elections and critique with photographer Fletcher Oakes. Members may bring one piece of artwork for his review and comments as time allows. Please! No wet paintings!

All programs are free and open to the public in the Garden Room at the El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane.
