Plein Air Schedule for August 2019

We meet at the site on Thursdays 11 am – 1:30 pm and welcome all artists. If you wish to share your work, meet back at 1:15.

August 1: San Pablo Reservoir. Enjoy beautiful scenic views of EBMUD’s San Pablo Reservoir at San Pablo Recreation Area in Contra Costa County.

From Berkeley take Wildcat Canyon Road past Inspiration Point down the twisty road on the backside of Tilden Regional Park to the signal at the intersection with Camino Pablo and San Pablo Dam Road in Orinda. Turn left at the light onto San Pablo Dam Road. Do NOT take an exit shortly after the turn for the Boat Launch Area on right. Go about 3 ½ miles to San Pablo Recreation Area, also on the right (east side of San Pablo Dam Road).

El Cerrito residents may want to take I-80 to San Pablo Dam Road. Go toward Orinda and turn left into the Recreation Area.

You may be asked to pay a fee at the kiosk. Drive a short way down the drive through the parking lot to near the Recreation Center. Deck with views looking over the reservoir. Basic food available at the café for lunch. Boat rentals.

August 8: Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline – Keller Beach. Take I-580 in Richmond to Exit 8, the Canal Boulevard/Garrard Boulevard Exit. Turn left onto Canal Boulevard and continue under the freeway, turn right onto West Cutting at the corner near the Chevron Station, and left onto South Garrard Boulevard at the three-way stop. Proceed through the tunnel onto Dornan Drive. Park. The beach is on the immediate right.

August 15: Delaware Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets, Berkeley. Victorian cottages and storefronts are your choices for painting. From El Cerrito take San Pablo Avenue south toward Berkeley. At Gilman Street turn right. If you then turn left at Sixth Street you can park on the street at Delaware and Sixth streets. Alternatively, from Gilman, you can turn left at Fourth Street and park in one of the lots near the shops.

August 22: Berkeley Marina. Take I-80 to the University Avenue Exit. Go west to the Berkeley Marina on University Avenue, and next turn right on Marina Boulevard. Continue to the left as Marina Boulevard becomes Spinnaker Way. Meet at the circular parking area at the end. From Berkeley take your favorite way to the Marina and follow the directions above. We will be next to Caesar Chavez kite area on the water.
