Plein Air Schedule for September 2019

We meet at the site on Thursdays 11 am – 1:30 pm and welcome all artists. If you wish to share your work, meet back at 1:15.

September 5 – Aquatic Park, City of Berkeley. Meet at the intersection of Addison Street and Bolivar Drive, nearest address is 605 Addison. This is a public park created by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. From this spot you can draw views of the water, the footbridge over the freeway, and the buildings. New benches face the water. To get there from San Pablo Avenue turn west towards the Bay on Cedar Street. Turn left on Fourth Street. Go past the former Spenger’s Restaurant on the left and cross under the freeway at University Avenue. Take the first right onto Addison Street. Cross the railroad tracks and the street dead ends into Aquatic Park at Bolivar Drive. Turn left onto Bolivar and there is parking on the left side.

September 12 – Hillside Natural Area, El Cerrito, just west of El Cerrito Recycling Center, 7501 Schmidt Lane. From San Pablo Avenue take Moeser Lane east up to Navellier Street. Turn left onto Navellier, then right onto Schmidt Lane. Park on the street and walk up the little trail past the sign for Hillside Natural Area.

September 19 – Live Oak Park, Berkeley, 1301 Shattuck Avenue (between Berryman and Eunice streets). The Park, Codornices Creek and surrounding homes are great subjects for drawing and painting.

September 26 – Regional Parks Botanic Garden, Tilden Regional Park, Shasta Road, Berkeley. From the Marin Traffic Circle take Marin Avenue up to Grizzly Peak Boulevard. Turn right (south) onto Grizzly Peak, then left onto Shasta Road. The Garden is just east of The Brazilian Room where Shasta Road becomes Wildcat Canyon Road. From Berkeley or points south take I-80 to the University Avenue Exit and turn towards the hills. Continue on University Avenue and turn left onto Oxford Street, then right onto Rose Street, and then left onto Spruce Street. Follow Spruce uphill till it turns into Wildcat Canyon Road. The Garden is at the intersection of Wildcat Canyon Road and South Park Drive. The parking lot is on the right.
