At our October 11th virtual meeting oil painter Marie Massey will demonstrate the Painting in Layers method developed by Barbara Marquardt. This process combines the Renaissance concepts of chiaroscuro with color ideas from the Impressionist painters. Her own work has evolved from highly detailed realism in watercolor to impressionistic paintings in oil following this model.
Marie studied art at the California College of Arts and Crafts, U.C. Santa Barbara and the Loveland Academy of Art as well as with many well-known contemporary artists. She teaches both plein air and studio workshops. Her artwork has been juried into many national and prestigious shows across the U.S. at which she has won numerous awards
Her latest work focuses on landscapes – gardens, architecture and natural scenes. Inspirations include Monet, Renoir, Bonnard, Cezanne, Gauguin, Jackson Pollock and Wolf Kahn.
Marie’s work is represented by the San Francisco Women Artist gallery, the Independence Gallery in Colorado and Gallery 620 in Pacific Grove, CA
She also has a full schedule of workshops and teaching while looking forward to resuming post-pandemic travel. www.mariemassey.com
