Plein Air Schedule for May 2019

We meet at the site on Thursdays 11am – 1:30 pm and welcome all artists. If you wish to share your work meet back at 1:15.

May 2: Berkeley Parklet in front of Saul’s Delicatessen.
1475 Shattuck Avenue between Rose and Vine Streets. This is a public outdoor seating area in the Gourmet Ghetto. There are interesting store fronts and you may want to look around the neighborhood for places that appeal to you.

*May 4 & 5: Trail Trekkers’ Hillside Festival.
Sign up at pleinair@elcerritoart.org to set up off-trail at special sites: Saturday noon at Schmidt Lane Trail (near Recycling Center) and Sunday, 11 am and 2:30 pm at King Court Trail. Details here or Trail Trekkers’ flyer.

May 9: City of Berkeley Rose Garden.
The closest street address to this park is 1200 Euclid Avenue, Berkeley, 94708 – across from Codornices Park – Northeast Berkeley This is a timely place to paint so close to Mother’s Day! Directions: From 1-80 take the University Avenue exit in Berkeley. Follow University Avenue towards the hills, turn left on Oxford Avenue, then right on Rose Street, then left on Spruce Street, then right on Eunice Avenue, then right on Euclid Avenue.

May 16: Meeker Slough, Richmond.
Directions: From Berkeley, North Oakland take I-80 north. Use the right two lanes to merge onto I-580 toward the Richmond Bridge. Take the South 23rd Street/Marina Bay exit off I-580. Use the left two lanes to turn left onto Marina Bay Parkway at the signal light. Continue on Marina Bay Parkway, crossing Regatta Boulevard (4th traffic light). Turn left on to Bayside Drive. Continue to the end where there is a small area to park and a path that leads to the Slough.

May 23: Albany Veterans Memorial Building, Veterans Memorial Park, 1325 Portland Avenue, Albany.
Carmel Avenue is the cross street. Built in 1932 as a memorial to Albany veterans of World War I, the structure has some nice architectural features. The park and homes across the street were also built around this era.

May 30: Lake Anza, Tilden Park.
There is scenery of the lake and trees. Google Directions: At the Marin Circle stay on Marin and continue to Grizzly Peak Blvd. Turn left onto Grizzly Peak. Turn right onto Sunset Ln. Make a slight right onto Wildcat Canyon Rd. Turn left onto Central Park Dr. Turn left to stay on Central Park Dr. Turn right onto Lake Anza Rd. Turn left to stay on Lake Anza Rd. Parking lot will be on the right. Meet in the parking lot near the swim center pathway.
